The Eye of the Virus edition by Theresa MacPhail Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

There were a lot of things that I really loved about this book. Excellent tension, plot. Superb character development. Theresa kept me reading, and I hated having to put the book down. There were three things that got in the way of a 5-star review, however, and two of them could have been helped by more (or better) editing. Two of them: grammar and spelling. There were a number of errors. One of my pet peeves is using "alright," which is NOT a word, instead of "all right." And it was used a lot. (Not "alot!!!") The other factor was that the voice of the virus didn't work at all for me. I simply cannot envision a virus speaking (or thinking) like a college graduate. The information given by the virus was good, but could have come from another source. Maybe Brian. The one place where I appreciated the words of the virus was in the final chapter, "The Final Word," which was well done--but again, the idea of a virus coming up with this chapter...well, it just didn't work for me. However, I really loved the book itself, I want to see more from Theresa MacPhail.

The Eye of the Virus edition by Theresa MacPhail Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

This book began as a beating heart, then spread it's powerful plot throughout, like streaming in through many blood veins at once, in every direction conceivable. If you want a fast ride that will keep you mesmerized, then this book is for you.
An Awesome Story!!! It was an eye-opener to how the virus works and how quickly it can change and spread around the world. With the current situation with Ebola, this could provide education to people as they read this story. This story was realistic and showed the workings of government organizations in trying to stop the spread of the virus and trying to find the cure for it.
This book was very intriguing and fascinating. It told the story of a pandemic caused by a new bird flu virus. The characters were interesting and well-fleshed out, but the most intriguing character was the virus itself. Being devoid of human emotion it makes quite a case for its existence and work. I loved this book and commend the author on her originality. My only complaint was the terrible editing and misuse of words. That being said, I will definitely read her next book!!
Several story lines at once but they have clear differences so not too hard to follow. This is not a happily ever after story though some plot lines have good endings. The parts told from the virus's perspective are well done and definitely add to the story. Suspenseful and moves along well. Takes a bit of a standard dig at big pharma but it makes sense with the story. The foreign scenes are well done and the writing evokes the feel of the different cultures. Worth much more than the kindle price.
I wish I could like this book. I tried really hard. I'm 27 % into this book, and stopping this morning. The writing is tedious, and it has so many characters I cant keep up when the author switches back and forth through the characters and where ever they happen to be at the moment. But when THE VIRUS started telling us about it's journeys through the ages, it became too far out there for me. Although I'm sure a lot of readers will like this premise.
Not bad...not great.

Theresa MacPhail has certainly researched her topic. Of this there is no doubt. I liked the realism of the spread of the disease. However, writing interludes from the virus's point of view was bizarre to say the least. I think it took away from the overall read. Also, there are so many different characters, and MacPhail bounces from this person to that person to the next person and after awhile, you stop really caring about them because they're so one-dimensional. Were it me, I'd focus on patient zero and his wife, maybe the family with the two young children who died, and the parents really only were married for the kids' sake, and maybe Brian and Casey. Other than that, ditch the other people. Ms. MacPhail should continue writing, because while this story wasn't a home run, she's got good talent and will only get better.
Enjoyed greatly this extremely well written novel on the mayhem that the age old mercurial influenza virus can inflict on the human race globally. Part fact and part fiction, the book began aptly with patient zero Harry in ground zero Asia, the hot bed of all emerging pathogens. Bringing realism into the story and capturing the readers imagination would be the brilliant portrayal of the various characters from a nice cross section of society representing, the medical profession, avaricious pharmaceutical companies, jet setting travellers, the lay person, press and WHO and people in their lives from USA to UK to HK and China. Deeply satisfying that the very avaricious pharmaceutical man would himself succumb to the very virus even though he was taking the drug he claimed was effective but released on falsified data.
